Press Reports Carlsbad, CA Police Recent press releases from the Carlsbad CA Police Department have reported a series of armed robberies along the beachfront near Carlsbad State Beach Campground, one of which resulted in a shooting of the victims. On March 28th two Barton brothers, 19, and a friend Kevin Miller, also 19, were walking back to their vehicles after spending time on the beach near the campground. Three males, one of whom displayed a handgun, confronted them. The victims were unarmed. The suspects demanded the victim’s wallets. Miller turned over his wallet, but when the Barton brothers turned to run the suspect(s) opened fire hitting each of the brothers in the lower leg. The suspects escaped, and the Bartons remain hospitalized with serious injuries. Yet another robbery occurred in the same area on April 6th, 2005. A man and a woman were sitting in their car overlooking the beach when two men approached them. One suspect pointed a handgun at the man and demanded his wallet, cell phone and car keys. They threw his keys down the beach bluff before escaping in a small two-door hatchback car with his wallet and cell phone. No suspects are in custody. |
